Emergency Calling during a Service Interruption

If you ever experience a service interruption and are unable to make a VRS call, we want you to be prepared. Here are three recommended alternative options for placing an emergency call.

  • Use a mobile phone – Dial 911 from your mobile phone and stay on the line. Be sure to call 911 from the location of the emergency. The emergency call center will recognize your call and send help
  • Use a landline phone – Just like your mobile phone, dial 911 from a landline phone and then leave the phone off the hook. The emergency call center will recognize your call and send help.
  • Use a TTY – Dial 911 from your TTY. Although an older communication device, a TTY remains a very reliable method for reaching emergency services.

Calling during a Service Interruption

If you ever experience a service interruption and are unable to make a VRS call, we recommend using a TTY to place your calls until the interruption is resolved. A TTY remains a very reliable method of communication.
